Vision Guided Robotics
Overview
A vision guided robotic system for streamlining processes on a manufacturing floor. The system is comprised of various model cameras, a six axis robotic arm, AI object detection, and a frontend application for driving the programs.
Originally a simple pick and place program, I took this idea in its infancy, and collaborated with several different business functions to design a system that was scalable and usable by factory operators. I built an architecture that ties all the components together and added AI object detection, allowing for quick development and release of new adaptable programs for the system.
My system has given us the ability to quickly move the robot into new areas of the business, with the potential to save hundreds of thousands of dollars annually as it expands.
Objective: Build a robotic system to tie together technologies in such a way that the system could be quickly deployed throughout the factory.
Highlights: Only a year and a half into my career at the company, I was given the reigns for this project. With limited guidance I took it from idea to production, and it is currently positioned to save the company tens of thousands of dollars annually.
Role: Technical Lead/Software Engineer
Technologies: Python, YOLOv5, C#, .NET
Outcome
The system is in production with multiple programs gearing up for release over the next few years.
